This Week in Tacoma History

Thirty years ago this August, one of Tacoma's civic anchors opened its doors. On August 10, 1996, the Washington State History Museum welcomed its first visitors next to historic Union Station, capping a five-year, roughly $42 million construction project. Architect Charles Moore designed the building to echo Union Station's grand arches, insisting a building should reflect its setting and purpose.
